About Us at Sew Creative.
Based in rural Dairy Flat, Albany, New Zealand, Sew Creative is a patchwork and quilting supplies shop, owned and operated by me, Cheryll, and my husband, Robin.
I have always loved any sort of craft and over the years have tried my hand at pretty much anything - from quilting to teddy bear making, paper tole to cross-stitch, fabric painting to covered boxes, and even cake decorating. I do tend to have an eye for detail and can often be accused of being too fussy!
My husband Robin has always been very supportive of me and has spent many hours trailing along at craft shows or filling in time while I shop. In 1996 we decided to buy a small shop in Orewa where I could work and create at the same time! The shop focussed more on sewing machines and embroidery back then, but over the years the trend has changed more towards patchwork and quilting. Originally I wasn’t interested in patchwork and quilting, but that soon changed and I caught the bug big time. I LOVE fabrics – so much so that it wasn’t long until we needed a bigger shop! In the meantime Robin was made redundant from his job as a Financial Manager for a Pharmaceutical company, so we decided to take the plunge and move to a much larger shop in Albany where he became involved in the business too..
After operating the Albany shop for three years, a health issue late in 2007 precipitated a change in lifestyle. We fitted out a small cottage on our property and also set up our online store. Although we do not have regular hours, people are most welcome to phone us to make a time to come and visit.
We carry a wide range of patchwork and quilting fabrics and accessories, and also run a variety of classes. Many of our products are on this web-site – although if you can, you may like to come and visit and see them for yourself!
When you visit, you may be greeted by an alpaca looking over the fence or a happy little dog announcing your arrival! Our shop and home is on a rural block in Dairy Flat after all!
We are lucky to have our two daughters and their families living close by and we are fortunate to see a lot of them - especially our four lively grandsons and one granddaughter. We think they are all awfully cute - but of course grandparents are allowed to be a little biased!
We would love to keep you updated on all the new happenings and products as they come on-line, and invite you to subscribe to our newsletter.
We hope you enjoy www.sewcreative.co.nz as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.
